Here's a story from the Bangor Daily News about how a bond package that I worked on will benefit the Portland Waterfront. The story is from a press conference at Ocean Gateway back in November 2013.
I've been part of a special commission studying the issue of health care cost transparency - as in how can real people learn about the actual cost of their medical treatment to be able to shop around and compare providers and services? This has been an interesting series of meetings and will result in some useful legislative recommendations that we'll put forward. Our commission includes three legislator-physicians, so we are lucky to have the expertise of people actually on the ground in medical offices. Here's a News story that includes our Chair, Senator Geoff Gratwick.
We have been spending considerable time in trying to better understand the Administration's efforts to restore around $20 Million in funding to the Riverview Psychiatric Hospital in Augusta. This funding was removed by the Federal Government following the emergence of serious safety and staffing concerns. We are told that reforms are in progress, but the facility has yet to be recertified.
MPBN's story provides a complete account of this crisis as it stood during our November Appropriations meeting:
